I have been interested in the well-being of women and children for many years. Studying Pre-Med for 4 years, I knew the makings of the human body is what I loved. Since the age of 5, I wanted to be a Pediatrician and give my parents the bragging rights to say “Yes, my daughter is a doctor.”
Well, during my undergraduate years, I was no longer excited about being a Pediatrician, but I still wanted to help people. Changing my major to Clinical Health and Wellness was perfect for my plans. Once I switched over, I started to hear too many horrible stories about how black women and their children are constantly dying during childbirth. As a black woman, this really bothered me.
I then found a new passion: helping black women and other women of color have healthy, enjoyable pregnancies and birthing experiences.
In 1999, my mother came to me with amazing news: she was pregnant and I was going to be a big sister to a baby girl, Taylor. I remember that I couldn’t wait for Taylor to come and was so excited about being a big sister.
As vividly as I remember waiting for my sister to come, I remember my mother going to the hospital but not returning with her. Instead she carried a small white box. That box contained my sister’s hair, footprints and handprints.
My mom informed me that Taylor did not survive.
Tailored Birthing Co. was created in 2020 and named in remembrance of Taylor. I decided that I would honor her name by helping women have healthy pregnancies and births, tailoring each experience to the client’s needs.
At Tailored Birthing Co., our areas of service include, but are not limited to, Katy, Cypress, Memorial, Spring Branch and The Heights. TBC is trained in a variation of childbirth methods such as Hospital Birth, Natural Birth, VBAC, Water Birth, Home Birth, Inductions, Cesarean, Medicated Birth, and more.
